Teaching children valuable skills through a focus on wellness
PLC is a proud partner of the Farm to Preschool network. Nutrition education at the preschool level can prove instrumental in influencing the development of healthy eating habits while developing kindergarten readiness through hands-on activities in the areas of science, math, art and literacy. Research indicates that when students learn where food comes from, how it is grown, have hands-on experiences, and use their senses to understand it, they are more likely to taste new food items and accept them as part of their diet and build a foundation of lifelong healthy choices.
as a partner, we intentionally incorporate:
Nutrition and/or garden-based curricula
Outdoor teaching garden
Garden harvesting
Educational activities related to agriculture, food, health or nutrition
Why this network?
Preschool gardening engages children by providing an interactive environment to observe, discover, experiment, nurture and learn. School and child care gardens are living laboratories where interdisciplinary lessons are drawn from real life experiences, encouraging children to become active participants in the learning process.
